Thai Polo victorious in inaugural Terengganu Polo Championship

Thai Polo cruised to an emphatic 11 - 5 victory over Head Hunters to win the inaugural Terengganu Polo Championships in Kuala Terengganu.  Thai Polo patrons Dato' Harald Link and Dato' Mohamed Moiz made the difference in the game, ably supporting their two Argentine professionals Raul Laplacette and Carlos Pando.

Head Hunters Pablo Dorignac and Manuel Crespo fought hard the whole match and especially tried to make a game of it in the first two chukkas.  But the fast playing field at Terengganu Polo Club combined with Thai Polo's superiror horse power gave Thai Polo a distinct advantage.  They were 6-3 ahead at half-time, and drew away comfortably as Head Hunters had no answers to their attacking game.
Patrons Yeo Kuo Lee and Dato' Razak Feroz Khan played the whole final.  Both had good games, but it was the Thai Patrons Dato' Harald Link and Dato' Mohamed Moiz who shone.  Both contiributed two goals to their team.

It was a fiercely contested match, played at great pace.  Manuel Crespo and Pablo Dorignac once again showed what good players they are, but it was the combination and horsepower of Raul Laplacette and Carlitos Pando that was the difference.
Thai Polo won their second RMPA International League Tournament of the year.  They had also won the BMW-B Grimm Thai Open in January.  The International League was suspended as it is a World Cup year and as such there are only three league tournaments this year.   Had the points been calculated, Thai Polo would have won the three tournament league easiily with their two wins and a third place finish which was at the Malaysian Open last month.  The last time the league was suspended in 2007, Thai Polo would also have won it.  Surely one day Thai Polo will get to lift the trophy they have been twice denied.
In the other match on the final day, 1 Malaysia drew 6 - 6 with Royal Pahang to finish joint 3rd.  His Royal Highness Tengku Abdullah, Tengku Mahkota of Pahang played led the 1 Malaysia team as the team reshuffled players through the match.
Shaik Reismann and Huzaini Yunos were the constants but Tengku Shazril came on in place of Tenglku Mahkota in the 3rd chukka, while Saladin Mazlan replaced Edham Shaharuddin in the last.  Tengku Dato' Faisal and Tengku Rohanim replaced Tengku Mahkota in the Royal Pahang team.
The match was played in good spirit and was a very fast match. It was an excellent last match for the 1 Malaysia side before their tilt at next month'sFIP Polo World Cup Zone D Play-Offs.
The Terengganu Polo Championships was the first ever polo tournament held in that state.  It was a very good tournament, well organised and hosted, and played in lovely setting, and on what is easily the best field in Malaysia.  Congratulations to Tengku Sri Panglima and Terengganu Polo Club on an outstanding tournament.
